Q: If I purchase one license can I activate Vanguard Online Backup on two computers?

A: Vanguard Online Backup is licensed per computer, so If you want to run it that way, two licenses will need to be purchased.

 

Q: Will Vanguard Online Backup, backup files while I work on them?

A: Yes, Vanguard Online Backup leverages Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Technology to backup opened files

 

Q: How does Vanguard Online Backup secure my data?

A: Vanguard Online Backup offers several industry standard strong encryption algorithms to protect your data.

 

Q: Does Vanguard Online Backup copy all files every time it runs?

A: No, Vanguard Online Backup identifies files modified since last backup and only copies such files. This makes subsequent backups run much faster

 

Q: Can Vanguard Online Backup copy only modified portion of the file? I want to backup my Outlook PST file, but it is 2GB, and I don’t want to copy the whole file every time.

A: This is called block-level backup, and it is fully supported with Vanguard Online Backup.

 

Q: Does Vanguard Online Backup keep older versions of the file?

A: Yes, and this feature gives you an ability to restore a file to a certain point in the past.

 

Q: If I delete a file on my local computer is it also deleted from backup storage?

A: Yes, and the file will be deleted from the online storage too. By default, though, the file will stay on the online storage for 30 days to prevent accidental deletion. We call it Smart Delete.

 

Q: Can Vanguard Online Backup copy the data immediately as it changes (e.g. new files are added or existing files are modified)?

A: Yes, and this is what we call Real-time backup. You can select this option in the Backup Wizard Scheduling step. By using a low level Windows API, this feature comes with zero impact on your computer performance.

 

Q: I backup right now with a hard drive, why should I use Vanguard Online Backup.

A: Vanguard Online Backup is a proven technology. It stores your data off-site in a world class data facility and automates the whole process. This results in eliminating any manual work for the business. In addition, you will never miss a backup, and you can always retrieve your files.

 

Q: How do I setup the backup?

A: Usually the best way for you to have your backup setup correctly, is for Vanguard to schedule a time with our technician to remote access your machine(s) and set them up. This is usually the best method as our technician will take this time to create a backup/disaster recovery with you.

Q: How do I pay for Vanguard Online Backup?

A: It’s simple! All we need is a credit card that we can put on file. Our credit card payment system is just as secure as our backups! Once we have your credit card number on file, you are only charged once a month for your preferred plan. You will receive an invoice after each payment has been processed.

 

Q: If I have a question can I call someone to help?

A: Yes you can. Send us an email or call us directly and a technician will be waiting to help!

 

Q: How will I know my backups are getting done?

A: If requested, Vanguard Online Backup will send email reports directly to you letting you know if your backups have failed or completed.

 

Q: Can I cancel at any time?

A: Yes you can. All you need to do is send us an email, and we will institute a ‘stop payment’ on your account immediately!

 

Q: What if I lost all my data, will someone be there to help me recover my data?

A: Absolutely! We have a 24 hour service, where a technician can help you retrieve this. Furthermore, we can send you a new hard drive with your data on it for you to plug in, and you are back in business!
